DC comics has introduced many heroes and villains since it started to publish comics in 1934. I have only been reading them since I was able to read. My brother introduced them to me and of course to all his favorite heroes. His favorite being Superman, which was the first comic that was introduced by DC comics. Batman was the second hero introduced by DC comics. I believe Batman to be superior to Superman in several ways. This has caused many debates between my brother and I.
Batman has no super powers. All the skills he has have been developed by practice, determination and intellect. He is just a mortal man which is unlike superman who has super powers and always had. Batman uses detective skills, martial arts training and his access to money and technology to become what he is. The fact that he has used what he had access to and used it for good and created a hero out of it is what makes him superior to other heroes. Batman is the only hero that is in the Justice League of America that does not have super powers. This is a huge honor to anyone that fights crime.
Not only has Batman shown himself to be an amazing hero he has also shown himself to be a influential and well known civilian. He is Bruce Wayne and has been able to hide his secret identity. He is very powerful and rich and has managed to stay humble, focused and out of the public eye enough that he has been able to keep his secret identity. Superman also has the claim that he has kept his secret identity a secret however he has not done it as clever or been as influential as Batman in the community.
Batman has also used his hero status to help many others to succeed and accomplish more than they ever thought they could. He has helped changed the lives of other in positive way. Some of these people include Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Barbara Gordon. He made all of these people his sidekicks and in doing so he created a greater purpose for them.
Batman has also shown amazing poise in stressful situations. He always uses logic and remains calm. He does not let his emotion control his reactions. This is one reason he is one of the most valuable members of the Justice League of America, he has been able to lead his fellow superheroes when they aren't able to lead themselves. He remains emotionally detached yet logical and strong at all times.
Bruce Wayne/Batman has had many difficult days and challenges but has not let those interfere with the man and the hero he is today.

Class Presentations Part 2
In communication class we have been working on research projects. Monday half of the class presented theirs, today the other half of the class was scheduled to present. I was on the list for today. I was unable to give my presentation due to my computer crashing. I was not smart and did not save it last night or as I worked on it, I just kept the window open. As I was trying to start the computer and get my project I realized I was not going to be able to access it today. I thought about what our teacher said about having to adapt when there is a problem with a presentation. I tried to think about what I would do if I was in a different setting and this happened. I considered just using books on body modification and pictures of my own personal body modifications and making a quick outline of the information I knew. If I did that I would still be missing half of the information I wanted to share.
I will give my presentation on Monday and on that day I will blog about how I think mine went. This is the second post on being being an audience member. I feel like today's presentations were wonderful. Two of the presenters did not use power point, I thought their presentations were amazing. The ability to be so engaged with the audience and to know their information without cues and to present it as well as they did made their presentations great. All the presentations gave so much detailed information and were so put together. I did love how personal the presenters were. The two power point presentations were very personal to the presenters and I thought they did an amazing job.
Unless I get my computer working again I will have to start my project all over again. If I have to do that I will not use any of the things I learned from the past two days of presenters. I feel that will be unfair to the rest of the class. I will keep it as close to the first presentation I completed.

Class Presentations
In class today presentations were given by several students. After the presentations
as a class we discussed what went well and gave constructive criticism. After taking my own notes and listening to the discussion, there are several points that I will review on my own presentation.
I will review my introduction, I believe it currently lacks what is needed to be considered a good introduction. I am going to add a personal reference to my introduction. A few of the presentations had personal reference in the introduction and it helped me to follow the presentation knowing the speakers feelings and attachment to the subject.
The use of visual aids was also well done in all the presentations. Pictures and props were well used. The pictures were used appropriately to emphasis a point. A few speakers brought in props which I think really helped to relate to the subject. I may add some props to my presentation after seeing how effective they are.
The use of cues on the slides is also something that I would like to review. Everyone did such a good job reading the cues then adding to it from their own knowledge. I am going to review my cues and shorten them if needed and use my own knowledge instead of reading notes or reading off the power point.
All the presentations were so well done today, they have given me a great guide to what I would like my presentation to be like.

My idea of a perfect meeting.
One of our two assignments today is to post about the topic we have been discussing this week. This post is about how I imagine a perfect meeting. The other assignment we had in class today was a group meeting exercise, this is what I will use as a reference on the topic.
Organization is a key element of a successful meeting, as well as a good facilitator. The facilitator needs to make the group aware that they are in that position. To refer to our exercise this was not the case, one person had agreed to be the facilitator and gave up that position almost as soon as they accepted it. Someone else did step up and act as the facilitator. I think that it showed disorganization and started the meeting off wrong. Confusion is not a good thing in communication. Staying on task and on topic is another part of what makes a perfect meeting. Brainstorming can create many new ideas but can also lead people to get very off topic. The other end of that is that some people can get "tunnel vision" and stay on one point they got out of the brainstorm and not advance their thinking. These things the facilitator needs to control by guiding the others in the right direction and keeping them focused where they need to be. It can in my opinion be one of the most difficult aspects of a meeting. When brainstorming it is important to let everyone voice their opinions and to acknowledge them and discuss the positive and negatives of each opinion. When doing that you are collaborating so that the best outcome can be achieved. Another important part of a meeting is to stay on time and to keep it within a reasonable amount of time. If the meeting drags on then people tend to lose their focus. If you stay on one point to long people will also lose their focus. You need to have a good flow of the conversation. When coming to the conclusion it is important to understand which decision making process seems to be in play and to work with it. At the end the facilitator should clarify all points and conclusions that were made.
Simplified the keys to a good meeting are; organization, timing, proper collaboration, active listening, structure and clarity.
To refer to the meeting from this morning, I believe it was not a "perfect meeting". A lot of that had to with the attitude I presented and brought to the meeting. There were many other aspects that contributed to the way the meeting went. It was an exercise so I hope that the things that were observed are used as a tool to implement better practices in future meetings. I also hope that everyone can see the roles that they play and how attitudes can greatly impact a meeting.

Communication Goal
As part of communication class we were asked to choose one aspect of our communication that we would like to focus and improve on throughout this class. My goal is to improve my clarity and organization in my verbal communication. I have noticed that my thoughts are very unorganized which comes out in my speech. I have the tendency to not think my thoughts through before I speak them. I like to refer to it as my filter needing to be replaced! This can and does affect how clearly I communicate my opinions, thoughts or answers. This leads to misunderstandings and even offending others.
In 4-5 more days my husband is coming home on leave from Iraq. It has been eight months since I have seen him, our communication has been limited to phone calls, text messages, instant messaging and e-mail. None of those have given us the opportunity to have long conversations. We have had to keep our communication to talking about the day to day things such as bills, home and a thousand I love you and I miss you phrases. Having him come home presents the perfect opportunity to work on my goal. I think having good communication will help us to have the best two weeks possible. Having as much time apart as we have, I am sure it has affected our ability to communicate efficiently. I do not want us to spend any of the time fighting because either of us misunderstood something the other was trying to communicate.
I will be making an effort to slow down and think before giving my opinions and suggestions. To evaluate how my words may be mistaken for something different than what I was trying to communicate. I am thankful that I will start working on this goal with my husband, he can give me feedback on how clearly I am communicating. I will be asking him to describe what he heard or understood.
I am very excited to utilize all the new ideas and skills I have learned in communication class in communicating with the hubby and supporting my personal communication goal!
